Christian ex-gay organization Exodus International made headlines this week when its Board of Directors announced the "pray the gay away" ministry after nearly four decades. This news occurred less than one day after its president Alan Chambers issued a formal apology to the LGBT for years of "undue" suffering.

The announcement to close Exodus came less than 24 hours before a highly publicized investigative report on the controversial organization was to air on "Our America with Lisa Ling" on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

Chambers’ apology and the announcement to close Exodus drew sharp criticism from the Christian right. In this clip, American Family Radio’s Bryan Fischer speaks with Peter LaBarbera, president of the Americans for Truth about Homosexuality about the collapse of Exodus and the future of reparative therapy.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper speaks with Lisa Ling about her interview with Alan Chambers in the wake of Exodus International’s closing.

Saw the Lisa Ling program, Mr. Chambers is only fooling himself. I have been in relationships with married men where they told me family pressures and their religion forced them to marry. Sadly, these were very unhappy men.

Perhaps Exodus can shift to a more productive and necessary effort: reparative therapy for Christian fundamentalists and right-wing homophobes. Homosexuality is not a disease, but homophobia CAN be cured.

Unfortunately, people like Fischer and LaBarbera are so tuned into their ideological agenda that they do not care about the harm they cause through quack psychology and practices such as reparative therapy. Given the fact that they aim much their abuse at youth, this shows why it is essential to outlaw these so-called ex-Gay ministries. Furthermore, what these people call "Biblical Truth" is neither Biblical nor Truth, but deliberate falsehoods and lies based on fear, anger and hate. Finally, their claims to change sexual orientation fly in the face of scientific fact as shown through independent studies and research.
