Nigeria’s Ministry of Information says it has defeated a cyberattack on its government website by foreign gay-rights activists.

A statement from press secretary Joseph Mutah says Thursday night’s hacking of www.nigeria.gov.ng was traced to activists who have recently attacked other governments’ sites in a proclaimed fight for gay rights.

Local news reports said a message on the hacked site gave President Goodluck Jonathan 72 hours to veto a new law that would jail homosexuals.

The hacker threatened to "unleash a torrent of fury" starting with "some startling but not surprising evidence of corruption."

Mutah’s statement Friday called it "a criminal attempt to blackmail countries" and said Nigerians "remain overwhelmingly opposed to the imposition of gay rights."

He says his ministry is taking measures to stem future attacks.

EDGE PEOPLE, CAN YOU PLEASE FIX THIS WEBSITE? It is so slow these days, but worse, this double posting just because we click Refresh is nuts. Also, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE increase the logon timer. There’s no reason for it to be so damned short! Sometimes, when reading a post then taking time to type out a comment, is disconnects your session. I’ve had to learn to type into MS Word, then confirm I’m still connected before posting. THEN, like in this thread, I clicked submit and the Edge window just went blank with "done" in lower left corner. That’s when I refreshed to bring it back up... and when it did come back up, WHALA! duplicate posts. The code to prevent duplicate codes is not difficult. And to increase the timer is also not difficult. Not even sure WHY there’s a timer. Most sites don’t even do that. Thanks

Hey Derek et al! FYI we’ve addressed some of this at least... the site is much faster, and the double posting has been fixed. We’re still working on the logon timer. Best, EDGE Support

Hiya EDGE Support! ;) I work on many different computers in different cities with very fast internet access. Even after your post, I’m not seeing any major speed increase. Clicking on something, anything still takes a long time to load. If this was just on 1 computer with 1 internet connection, I wouldn’t even mention it. But at home, I have 25Mb down, 10Mb up and sites with no slowness just snap on my screens. Videos stream smoothly, both down and up (up=my security cams). At work, the speed is around 80 Mb up and down. Now that’s fast. Yet, this site is still so slow. I’ll test double posting by clicking Refesh after I submit this. If it’s fixed, there won’t be a 2nd post. LOL one must refresh, ya know! :) Now, MORE IMPORTANTLY, how did you put that large, colorful face in your post??? Does this site support codes? [b]bold[/] and the like? ;) MUST KNOW.. MUST KNOW NOWWWWW! hehehehehe.... anyway, thanks for have such great support.
