After the Ali Forney Center’s Drop-In Center was destroyed by floodwaters from Hurricane Sandy, the community has come together to raise funds to rebuild it, including a Dec. 16 concert at XL nightclub.

The It Gets Better Project, created to show young LGBT people the levels of happiness, potential, and positivity their lives will reach, has announced its 2012 A Better Holiday concert.

It took only hours for Superstorm Sandy’s surging waters to destroy an emergency drop-in center for homeless gay youths but social media outpouring helped raise money for a new, bigger Ali Forney Center.

Supporters gathered in Tribeca for the 15th Annual Center Women’s Event, honoring reps from MAC Cosmetics, JPMorgan Chase and the New York Liberty, and raising critical funds for programs and services at the LGBT Center on West 13th Street.

The Ali Forney Center, the nation’s largest services and advocacy organization for homeless LGBT youth, celebrated its 10th anniversary at a benefit that raised more than $375,000 and honored local advocates.

This year, actress Parker Posey will act as host with a special performance from RuPaul’s Drag Race runner-up Chad Michaels. For the second year, Barclays will be the presenting sponsor for the summer benefit.

The Ali Forney Center (AFC), the nation’s largest organization working on behalf of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) runaway and homeless youth, will celebrate its tenth anniversary this year.

Representatives from the Ruth Ellis Center, the Ali Forney Center and Green Chimneys in New York City were among those who attended a White House-sponsored conference on homelessness among LGBT youth in Detroit on March 9.

Members of the Obama Administration will host a national conference on housing and homelessness in America’s LGBT communities on Friday in Detroit.
