Theo James as George Michael? Adam Lambert Not a Fan

Adam Lambert is no fan of the prospect that "White Lotus" star Theo James might star as George Michael in a biopic, Just Jared reports.

The 40-year-old "American Idol" star and current lead singer for Queen gave a thumbs down to the idea when The Advocate posted at instagram about the British actor's potential casting in the role of Michael, who pursued a globally successful career after his time as the frontman for Wham!.

Specifically, Lambert objected to the idea of casting a straight actor to play such an influential LGBTQ+ figure.

Lambert's take: "Yay another straight man playing a gay icon." Lambert posted the comment "with a rolling eye emoji," the New York Post reported.

"The casting rumor took off last week when James appeared on 'Watch What Happens With Andy Cohen,' " the Post recounted. "A fan asked if he'd like to play Michael, who died in 2016 of heart disease at the age of 53."

James answered that he would "love that." Calling Michael an "icon," the 38-year-old actor added: "He's a lot of Greek, and I'm a lot of Greek. Put that Greek together, and you get falafel."

George Michael's estate shot down another rumor: That it had given approval for the idea of the biopic.

As previously reported, UK newspaper The Daily Mail recently claimed to have heard from a source that "The script is in the final stages and producers are looking for their leading man. Theo's name is the one on everyone's lips. He would be perfect for the part."

The source reportedly added: "This is George's story, warts and all."

But Michael's estate put out a statement denying that they had given any approval to the project. "On behalf of George's family and [George Michael Entertainment] we want to make it clear that there is no truth whatsoever in this story, we know nothing about this project and will not be endorsing it in any way," the statement declared.
