Monjack claimed the day of Murphy's death began as "a regular day," but tragedy struck quickly, when Murphy was alone in her bathroom. "[Her mother] Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time," Monjack explained. "Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then called 911."

The 'Clueless' and 'Girl, Interrupted' actress went into full cardiac arrest, and paramedics were unable to revive her. Murphy was pronounced dead upon arrival at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. TMZ reported Monday that the actress had experienced flu-like symptoms in the days leading to her death, and that Murphy was seriously ill a few hours before she collapsed.

"She had laryngitis," Monjack told Access Hollywood, confirming that his wife had seen a doctor. "She had been tired at the end of the year. She had made a couple movies."

Some of what he's read about his wife's death has comforted him. "I loved what Ashton [Kutcher] wrote on Twitter," Monjack said, referring to a message posted by Murphy's 'Just Married' co-star reading: "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine."

"I couldn't have said it better," Monjack said.

But as for reports that he was a bad influence on Murphy, he said: "I don't know why anyone would think that. She found love. We found love. Brittany didn't get to where Brittany was with anyone controlling her... Brittany was Brittany."

The LA County coronor's office are investigating the death of the actress, though no foul play is suggested. Initial reports show a strong possibility of death from natural causes. The results of an autopsy completed Monday will not be available for weeks, and the cause of death will not be released until the toxicology report is concluded.
